The Spartans triumphed Monday night, Oct. 31 in Aberdeen in a three-way, Kansas Plan tiebreaker played against Southwest Washington League-Evergreen Division rivals Elma High School and Rainier High School.

The Spartans are scheduled to play Friday night, Nov. 4 at Toledo in a loser-out district match-up. The winning team goes to the state playoffs.

In the first round of play at Aberdeen Rainier out scored Elma 8-0. Then the Spartans defeated Rainier 7-0 following a first 0-0 round. Forks then defeated Elma 6-0 in the final round, with Spartan running back Shane WhiteEagle scoring the touchdown with a six-yard run. Against Rainier Brett Pederson scored on a pass from Brady Castellano, with Crecencio Uzueta kicking the extra point.

The Spartans are scheduled to play Friday night, Nov. 4 at Toledo in a loser-out district match-up.

Forks Head Football Coach Mark Feasel said league officials are working on a schedule for the winner of Friday’s district playoff game, and what team the winner will play should be announced later this week.

“They came to play, they came together in  a huge way when they needed to,” Feasel told the Forks Fourm on Tuesday, Nov. 1. “Rainier looked real tough and ready to play.”  When the Spartans took the field, after watching Rainier smash Elma, Feasel said, there were concerns for Rainier was warmed up and had momentum. But on the first play against Rainier the Spartans “stuffed them…from play one the boys got after them.”

The Forks coach also credited strong support from the sidelines and from the Forks cheerleaders, something the other teams were lacking, he said.

Forks Principal Rex Weltz, Feasel said, told him the team spirit was so high that “you could sense it on the field.”
