A Look Back … This week in the Forks Forum

Running for two touchdowns this week in 2000, Mike Soha had led the Spartans to a 48-0 victory over Ilwaco (photo). Jess and Titus had been married in August and a story and photo shared their wedding activities (photo). Bill and Kitty Sperry had donated office equipment to the Quileute Tribal School office. In a letter to the editor Corlie Whitehead, Pool Promotion Committee chair, urged voters to vote yes for the start-up levy for funds to get the pool going.

This week in 1975 Pay and Save Foods was adding on to their building. Ella Paul was featured in a story about her life and activities in Forks, she came to the little logging town of Forks in 1939 (photo). In “In the Service” news Marine Pvt. Mark Dedman had graduated from training at the Marine Corp Recruit Depot, San Diego (photo). It was Homecoming Week and Monday was “clash and hat day.” In Moto-Cross news, Doug Vitcovich had won a trophy.

In 1968, 350 people had attended the Darigold Plant grand opening; 70 dozen Dixie Cups had been given out. In a personal tidbit it was reported the the Crippen kids had all been scheduled for tonsillectomies on Oct. 31, Mrs. Crippen said she forgot it was Halloween. The Forks Lions were sponsoring a Halloween contest and parade …the parade weather permitting. Pearl and Maynard Lucken had celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary.

This week in 1953, businessman Noble Hubbs had appeared before the Town Council asking to lease property at the Forks Airport for a drive-in restaurant. Mrs. Rose (Diimmell) Hagadorn had died. She was born at Bear Creek in 1894. Local Avon sales-lady Nicky Klahn had won a trip to Pasadena and been a guest of Avon, and toured the factory. The Beaver PTA was planning a Halloween Dance. Willard Morgan had traveled to Seattle to pick up a new log truck for Frank Henry Logging Co. Maxine Maxfield had been elected president of the Nurses Aid Association.
