Día de los Muertos celebrations at Forks and Port Angeles libraries, Nov. 1

Celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Port Angeles and Forks branches of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS).

Port Angeles Main Library – 2210 S. Peabody St.

Drop in from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to make a papel picado, a brightly colored paper banner with cutout details that’s traditionally used as Día de los Muertos decor. Participants can take home their banner or donate it to the library’s community ofrenda, a space set up to honor those who have passed away. Additional crafts will be available and all supplies will be provided. All ages are welcome; children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Forks Branch Library – 171 S. Forks Ave.

From 11 a.m. to noon, participate in a special interactive Storytime session and learn to make paper marigold flowers. As part of the tradition, Chocolate Abuelita (hot chocolate) and pan de muerto (sweet bread) will be provided.

Programs are generously supported in part by local Friends of the Library groups. For more information about events at your library, visit nols.org/events, call 360-374-6402, or email Discover@nols.org.
