Makah Museum Celebrates 46th Anniversary with Cultural Events and Local Artisans

Neah Bay, WA — Saturday, June 28, 2025 — The Makah Cultural and Research Center is proud to announce its 46th Anniversary Celebration. The Makah-owned and operated institution is dedicated to preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of the Makah people.

The public is invited to a special day of events on Saturday, June 28, 2025, to honor this milestone and celebrate Makah culture, history, and community.

The celebration will feature Traditional Art and food vendors from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Museum’s outdoor grounds. More than 20 Makah tribal members and local vendors will showcase and sell handmade carvings, basketry, jewelry, drums, beaded items, baked goods, food, and more. All proceeds go directly to the participating artists and vendors, who will retain 100% of their earnings.

At 1 p.m., visitors can enjoy traditional stories and legends shared by Steve Jimmicum, a respected Makah Elder, in the Museum’s indoor longhouse. The stories highlight the strength and resilience of the Makah people.

“This anniversary is a celebration of cultural survival and expression,” said Janine Ledford, the Makah Cultural and Research Center Director. “We are proud to uplift our artists, elders, and educators in this community celebration.”

Admission is free during the anniversary event call (360) 645-2711.
