Get ready for Rainfest

Rainfest 2013 will be held Friday-Sunday, April 19-21, with a number of events providing fun for all ages.

The 13th annual Piecemakers “Fabric of the Forest” quilt show will be held at the Forks High School Auxiliary Gym on Spartan Avenue.  The hours are Friday 12-6, Saturday 10 -6, Sunday 12-4.

 

In conjunction with the quilt show, the Piecemakers Quilt Club is hosting renowned instructor and designer Marti Michell from Atlanta, Ga.  Three of the classes offered this year:   Sedona Star, Dresden Plate, (Friday); Fat Quarter Log Cabin (Saturday Morning) and the Lecture/Demo:  Shortcuts, Top Tips & Secrets (Friday Evening) and Exploring Log Cabin or How to Build a Log Cabin – Quilt, That Is! (Saturday Afternoon) will feature demos and trunk show of Michell’s quilts.

Also, the West Olympic Council for the Arts plans these activities on Saturday: Umbrella Decorating, 10 a.m.-noon (Peninsula College) Parade to immediately follow Pie Social, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Peninsula College) Proceeds benefit Sarge’s Place Children’s Book Giveaway and Craft Atc., 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, 1 – 4 p.m. (JT’s Sweetstuffs) Inquire at JT’s to reserve a spot!

 

For a good cause

The Junior Girls Scouts of Troop 42116 are holding a dessert auction to raise money for a trip that they will be taking to Victoria, Canada, next summer. The event takes place beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 19,  at the First Congregational Church in Forks.  

 

Cleaning up

The Clallam Bay Sekiu Lions Club and the Clallam Bay Sekiu Chamber of Commerce invite everyone to participate in a Community Beach Clean Up to remove litter from local beaches on Saturday, April 20.

The cleanup will take place from Pillar Point to Bullman Beach.  

 

Trash bags and gloves will be handed out starting at 9 a.m. at Compass Rose in Clallam Bay, Sekiu River (northwest corner past bridges), Ray’s Grocery, and Shipwreck Point (Highway 112 pullout with historical marker).

 

From 1-4 p.m., beach cleaners are invited to Chito Beach Resort for refreshments, music and a “Most Unusual Find” display and contest.  Entries for the contest must be in by 3 p.m. and can also be entered at the dumpster site.

A day in library’s life

The North Olympic Library System will be participating in “Snapshot:  One Day in the Life of Washington Libraries” through the week of April 15-20. NOLS will join libraries of all types across Washington in taking pictures, collecting data and soliciting customer comments that demonstrate how Washingtonians utilize their libraries on a typical day. Each of the NOLS branches has chosen a representative day with the Forks Branch taking Friday, April 19.

 

Data collected by NOLS will be collated and posted to http://walibrarysnapshot2013.wikispaces.com on April 30.
