County Seeks Volunteers for Voters’ Guide Committees Ahead of 2026 General Election

The Clallam County Board of Commissioners is seeking residents to serve on “For” and “Against” committees to prepare voters’ guide arguments for the 2026 General Election.

Clallam County publishes an online voters’ guide and a printed local voters’ pamphlet that provide voters with information about ballot measures and the voting process. For each measure appearing in the guide and pamphlet, voters are presented with the official ballot title, an explanatory statement, and written arguments both supporting and opposing the measure.

Volunteers are currently needed to serve on “For” and “Against” committees related to a proposed amendment to the Clallam County Charter. The proposed amendment would require the full text of any proposed Charter amendment to be printed in the local voters’ pamphlet.

The amendment was proposed by the 2025 Clallam County Charter Review Commission and would revise Section 11.20 of the Clallam County Charter, which governs Charter amendments and repeal. Under the Charter, amendments may be proposed by the Charter Review Commission, the Board of County Commissioners, or by the public. Proposed amendments must be filed and registered by the County Auditor and submitted to voters at the next statewide general election occurring at least 90 days after registration.

The proposed amendment also restates that when more than one Charter amendment appears on the same ballot, each must be presented in a way that allows voters to vote on them separately. An exception is provided for amendments addressing a single or interrelated subject, which may be submitted as a single proposition even if changes are made to more than one article of the Charter.

If approved by voters, the amendment would take effect 10 days after election results are certified, unless a later date is specified in the petition or ordinance proposing the amendment. Any implementing ordinance required as a result of a Charter amendment would be required to be adopted by the Board of Commissioners within 180 days after the amendment becomes effective, unless otherwise stated in the amendment.

As part of the ballot process, language proposed for removal from the Charter is shown with strikethrough, while new language proposed for addition is underlined. These formatting conventions allow voters to clearly see what changes would be made if the amendment is approved.

Individuals interested in serving on a “For” or “Against” committee must contact the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026. Applicants should include their full name, phone number, and specify which committee they wish to serve on. Interested parties may email loni.gores@clallamcountywa.gov

or call 360-417-2256.

Additional information about “For” and “Against” committees is available in the Elections Guide for Jurisdictions and Candidates or by contacting the Clallam County Elections Department at 360-417-2221.
