Forks Police Chief Rick Bart said Officer Julie Goode “had a bad week.”

Goode, who has served with the Forks Police Department for nine months, nicked a van with her patrol car on Sunday, April 7. On April 8 she clipped another vehicle, this time at the corner of Wood Avenue and Ash Street.

Bart said on Sunday Goode was responding to a rape investigation. While turning into a driveway she “brushed against” a van. It bent the van’s bumper a bit, Bart said.

He added that the owner of the struck vehicle noted that the van doesn’t run, and “hasn’t in 20 years.” He said he wasn’t concerned about the damage.

Goode’s own cruiser suffered a little scrape, Bart said. He added that though the damage was minimal, he required Goode to report the accident.

On Monday Goode was stopped in her police car at a stop sign at the corner of Wood and Ash. She didn’t notice Misty Davis, who driving north on Ash Street in a 1995 Toyota Avalon, and drove into her vehicle.

Bart said there will likely be an insurance claim filed in the second accident. “The two doors (of the Toyota) are damaged enough that I think they’re going to have to be repaired,” he said.

Washington State Patrol responded to the second collision. “We called them,” Bart said. “Standard procedure.I don’t want anyone thinking we’re treating the police special.”

Bart has hung the damaged “push bar” from Goode’s vehicle on the wall of the police department where it serves as a reminder of the need for driving safety.

Bart reiterated that for Goode, it was just “a bad week.”

“She is probably the hardest working police officer we have in town,” he said. “She’s very positive and gets the job done.”
